On this page, we will compare the primary differences between human hair and fiber extensions. Each has its own characteristics. While some people prefer human hair, others prefer the fiber extensions. When you come in for your consultation, you can feel the differences for yourself. Until then, this guide may help you on your way to choosing which type of hair is right for you. |

|
One of the biggest differences you will see between human hair and fiber extensions is the price. You can save considerably with fiber extensions. One characteristic of human hair is that the cost increases exponentially with length. It is relatively easy to find a donor with 8” of healthy hair, but finding someone with 18” of healthy hair is much more difficult. Finding someone with even longer hair becomes extremely difficult. Fiber extensions only cost a little bit more for extra length. So, you can save money with fiber.

Another big difference is that fiber extensions do not take color. Human hair extensions do. So, what does this mean to you? With fiber extensions, you can color your hair and it will not affect the color of the extensions. They will remain their original color. On the other hand, if you want to change their color, you can't. Human hair extensions are affected by the color you put on them. This means you have to be extremely careful when coloring your hair (maybe best left to our colorists to do). However, if you want to change the color of the human hair extensions, you can. |

There are a few differences in manageability to be aware of. Specifically, tangling and the ability to curl the extensions. Tangling - Generally, fiber extensions will tangle less than human hair extensions. Curling - On your human hair extensions, you can use a flat iron or curling iron, and they will take the curl similarly to your own hair. Fiber extensions will not take or hold the curl quite as well. Although, with the right curlers, our Dome Monofibre extensions hold a curl very well. CAUTION - You cannot use a flat iron, curling iron, or hot hair dryer on most fiber extensions, although we do have several high heat fiber extension products.
